Hiding icons on the bottom of your screen

By using this tip you can hide the useless icons on the bottom of your system screen (right end of the taskbar). Because some of the icons will useful for you on system tray area but may be others list of icons not useful for you so you can hide all extra icon very easily. Many programs that run in the background on your computer but you are not using regularly such as antivirus software, volume controller, backup applications. The system tray can get cluttered with useless icon, so you may not wants to display them on the tray.

To hide those icons that you do not use regularly, follow these steps.

First of all right-click on the windows taskbar and choose Properties.

Remove the text from the Desktop icon

Desktop is the interface of Windows, which contain the icons, taskbar etc. that allow the user to interact with the computer to perform different operations. Usually the picture of icon represents its purpose so if you want your desktop looking very clean then you can remove the title under the desktop icons. May be you are thinking it is so easy, just go to rename option and set blank name or single spacebar entry but the problem is this, windows will not allow you to set blank name or name with single spacebar entry. Here interesting thing is this; window will allow you to use the ASCII code for a space, which is 0160.

First clear all the text from that icon

Now type the ASCII code, simply hold the Alt key, type the number 0160 from the number pad and release the Alt key then press Enter button to finish the process.

But if you want to remove the text of multiple icons, then repeat the above process with adding one extra ASCII code for second icon, (for example for second icon you type the 0160 twice and for third icon type 0160 three times with Alt key and so on).

Enable or disable the windows firewall in windows 7

A firewall is a software or hardware base solution to filter the incoming and outgoing traffic of your computer or network. All the entering or leaving traffic from your computer pass through the firewall, which inspect the all types of traffic and either allow or deny the traffic depending upon the firewall settings. Microsoft includes the built-in firewall feature in all latest windows operating systems like windows XP, Vista and now in windows 7.

Follow the given steps to configure built-in firewall in windows 7:

To use this feature, you will need to be logged into your computer with administrative rights.

First click on Start button and then click on Control Panel option.

Now in Control Panel click on “System and Security” link to go next.

On next page, you can see the firewall link “Windows Firewall”, Click on this link to configure the firewall.

There are many options on the left side panel of this page regarding firewall configurations under “Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall”, For example

Change notification settings
Turn Windows Firewall on or off
Restore defaults
Advanced settings

On the right side panel, you can see the two types of link for firewall settings, For example

Home or Work (Private) networks
Public networks

Now in left side panel, click on Change notification settings to customize the firewall settings.

By default windows firewall is on for both private and public network, here you can turn off the default firewall policies.

To allow the default or recommended settings either click on the Use recommended settings button on the right pane or click on the Restore default link on the left side panel.

Here click on the Restore default button and a restore defaults confirmation message will be opened, Click on Yes button.

But if you are a expert user then you can use the Advance Settings link on left side panel to configure the advance firewall settings for inbound and outbound traffic according to your need.

Click on the Inbound Rules link in the left side panel. You can see here a list of all Inbound Rules is displayed. On clicking an enabled rule, a list of actions is shown in the Actions Pane. Click on Disable Rule to disable the selected rule. You can also Cut, Copy and Delete the rule.

Seven years after Apple began selling music a la carte, what have listeners bought?

The odometer that has been counting song downloads on Apple's (AAPL) iTunes Store for the past week and a half hit the 10 billion mark shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 24 – a day that happens to be, coincidentally, Steve Jobs' 55th birthday.

To celebrate what it is billing as "one huge milestone for music," the company has promised to award whomever downloaded the 10 billionth song a $10,000 iTunes gift card.

Apple can afford it. The company says it runs iTunes at just above break-even; its main purpose, after all, is to sell Apple's hardware.

But since it opened for business in April 2003, the iTunes Store has become America's No. 1 music vendor, generating revenues of $520 million in the last quarter alone, according to Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster (see below).

It may be 10 days before Apple tells us who won the $10,00 gift-card. (In case of a tie, the winner will be chosen randomly.)

I have trouble imaging how anyone would spend $10,000 at the iTunes Store, given the fact that it has taken me seven years to amass a library of 6,225 songs and podcasts.

But then I am not Apple's typical music customer — a point made abundantly clear to me by the list the company has posted of the 20 Most-Downloaded iTunes Songs of All Time. Of the 20, I own exactly one. (Suffice it to say, it was not one of the top 6, which included two Black Eyed Peas songs, two Lady GaGas, a Jason Mraz and a Coldplay.)
